Thank You

Thank You from the Newboro and Area Heritage Society

We are truly overwhelmed and deeply grateful to everyone who came out to support the launch of our exhibition, The History of Indigenous Peoples in Rideau Lakes: An Archaeological Approach.

To those who filled the Newboro Community Hall to capacity—we thank you. And to those we sadly had to turn away at the door due to space limits, we offer our sincere apologies. We did not anticipate such an incredible turnout, and it was a first for our small heritage organization. We know this must have been disappointing, and we are exploring ways to share more of this important work with the wider community.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped bring this event to life—from the Indigenous Women’s Beading Group who hosted the beautiful Bannock & Beads fundraising dinner the night before, to the volunteers, donors, and supporters who made the evening possible.

While admission to the event was free, we were deeply moved by your generosity—your donations raised over $500, which will help offset the costs of exhibition design and printing, and support our continued efforts to bring awareness to the Indigenous histories of our region.

We were honoured to welcome Mireille Lapointe, respected leader, teacher, and community activist from the Ardoch Algonquin First Nation, who opened the evening with wisdom, generosity, and support for the exhibition and the society’s work.

To Ted Stewart, whose original research and archaeological knowledge made this exhibition possible—thank you. Your work brings forward the vital stories of this land and reminds us how important it is to continue gathering and sharing knowledge. If you or your family have local artifacts or stories to share, please reach out. This shared knowledge strengthens all of us.

We also thank our generous gift basket donors:
Newboro Soap Company, Stirling Lodge, Stone Manor Studios, Maggie Stewart’s Beadworks, Joan Wright and Mary White.

And a special thank you to the Township of Rideau Lakes for your ongoing support of community heritage initiatives.

With gratitude and renewed purpose,
The Newboro and Area Heritage Society
